CHANDIGARH: To woo the voters on the eve of Lok Sabha polls, Punjab government has decided to lift the ban on new recruitments in the government jobs.
The decision was taken in a meeting of the council of ministers held here on Wednesday, said a government spokesman, adding that the modalities in this regard would be worked out subsequently. Though, the lifting of ban on recruitments may not be of much use, yet it would remove an irritant and talking point to the opposition to score over the state government.
Also, the government has decided to constitute a Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes (SC) in the light of the guidelines provided in the "Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of atrocities) Act 1989.
The proposed commission is aimed to take precautionary and preventive measures to redress the aggrieved sections of SC population in the state.
It was decided also to abolish the posts of pro-vice chancellors in the three universities in the state. The government would soon issue an ordinance to this effect. Eventually, the pro-vice chancellors of Baba Farid University of Medical Sciences, Faridkot; Punjabi University, Patiala and Guru Nanak Dev University of Amritsar would go following promulgation of the ordinance.
The government has also decided to refix the price of the government land, in urban areas for regularisation of unauthorised occupation or construction.
The percentage of market value fixed by the collector of the district of the Indian Stamp Act on April1,2001 would be ten to 15 per cent upto five marla, 15 to 20 per cent till ten marla, 20 to 25 per cent for upto one canal and 30 to 32.5 per cent for more than one canal for the residential and commercial purposes respectively. These prices would be applicable to all those allotments made in pursuance of the policy issued on August 21,2001.
